Vairocana Tathāgata preached the Great Compassion Garbhadhātu Maṇḍala King to rescue and protect all sentient beings, and Vajrapāṇi transmitted and received the Buddha's teaching. After several hundred years, it was transmitted to Dharmagupta of the Nalendra Monastery in Central India. Gupta carefully transmitted and propagated it, bestowing it upon the monk Śubhakarasiṃha, a fifty-second-generation descendant of King Droṇodana. In the seventh year of the Kaiyuan era, Śubhakarasiṃha brought the maṇḍala drawings from the Western Countries to this land. During the reign of Emperor Xuanzong, he served as Imperial Preceptor, translating the Great Teaching and the Great Maṇḍala and establishing a great altar site. The honoured deities emitted light, and heaven rained fine flowers in offering. Those who received sympathetic responses cannot be recorded individually.
