1.81

傳聞。津州有孤女。愚癡不信。不識因果。生年五十有七。遭疾而死。其人見之。六日方醒。流淚投身自責過。人異之而問因緣。女答曰。吾見不可思議希有之事。初死之時。入迸鐵火地獄。投地獄中。獄有心白閻魔王。王撿一卷書曰。此女昔於功言弘和上室。禮拜金剛界大曼陀羅灌頂壇場。只是彼力耳。汝非生死人。早還人間。見此事得活。因此發心耳矣。

According to tradition, in Jinzhou there was an orphaned woman who was foolish and lacked faith, not understanding cause and effect. At fifty-seven years of age, she fell ill and died. People looked upon her, and only after six days did she revive. Weeping tears and throwing herself to the ground, she reproached herself for her faults. People found this extraordinary and asked about the circumstances. The woman replied, saying: "I saw an inconceivable and rare matter. When I first died, I entered the Hell of Bursting Iron and Fire. Cast into the hell, there was a conscious warden who reported to King Yama. The king examined a scroll of writing and said: 'This woman formerly bowed in worship before the Great Vajradhātu Maṇḍala abhiṣeka altar in the chamber of the upādhyāya Gongyanhong. It is solely through that power! You are not a person who belongs to death; return quickly to the human realm!' Having witnessed this matter, I was granted life; therefore have I resolved my mind [on the Dharma]."
