Zhang Xing'an, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Justice, made a vow to copy the Nirvāṇa Sūtra. When he first inscribed the title, he dreamed that night that two śramaṇas came and said: 'By copying this profound sūtra, you are certain to be born in the Buddha-land of the Land of Akṣobhya.' Awakening from the dream, he copied it with single-minded devotion. What happened thereafter is unknown.
