Dhyāna Master Sengzhe of Lizhou, longing for the sacred traces, traveled by boat to the Western Regions. Having arrived in the Western Lands, adapting to conversions according to conditions, his pilgrimage was largely complete, and he returned to Eastern India, arriving in the kingdom of Samataṭa. The king's name was Rājabhaṭa. This king deeply revered the Three Jewels, with deep sincerity and penetrating faith that outshone all before and after him. Every day, he made one hundred thousand molded mud images, read one hundred thousand verses of the Mahāprajñā[pāramitā], used one hundred thousand fresh flowers, and forthwith personally made offerings within the royal city. The monastics numbered some four thousand, all of whom received offerings from the king. Every morning, he would dispatch someone to enter the monastery and, with joined palms, walk briskly before their rooms through the monastery grounds, saying: "The Great King respectfully asks: Did the Dharma Masters have a peaceful and harmonious night?" The monks would reply, saying: "May the Great Saṅgha recite prayers of blessing: May the Great King be free from illness and have long life, may the fortunes of the state be peaceful and secure, may hostile states seek peace, and may the soldiers and common people be prosperous and abundant! Such is the power of the Mahāprajñā[pāramitā]!"
