Dhyāna Master Changmin of Bingzhou made a great vow to be born in the Land of Ultimate Bliss. The pure karma he performed was so extensive that its count would be difficult to detail fully. Later, he traveled through the capitals of Chang'an and Luoyang, exclusively venerating this practice. His hidden sincerity and dark omens brought about resonant signs, whereupon he vowed to copy the Mahāprajñāpāramitā-sūtra, completing ten thousand scrolls, hoping to travel far to the Western Regions to pay homage to the sacred traces of the Tathāgata's wanderings, and by means of this superior merit, dedicate it toward his vow to be reborn there. He then went to the palace and submitted a memorial requesting to teach and transform in the various prefectures, transcribing the Mahāprajñā[pāramitā]. Indeed, where the heart reaches, Heaven will surely follow. He was granted an imperial decree and traveled south through the regions south of the Yangzi, reverently copying the Prajñā[pāramitā] to repay the imperial favor. Once his profound vow was fulfilled, he boarded a ship traveling west. Hundreds of thousands of devas played music for him, and the ship he boarded was seen to be a Prajñā scripture case. Later he passed away in India and was welcomed to the Pure Land.
