3.29

釋沿謣。少而出家。有義學喜譽。常願生兜率天。作兜率天宮觀。註義源四卷。夢有青衣童子。告謣云。師若欲生兜率天奉見慈氏大士。方造形像觀真容。覺即刻木為像。生年七十有餘而卒。臨終之時。告徒眾曰。我所造像。現虛空中。從像生天矣。

Shi Yanyu left the household life in his youth. He possessed doctrinal learning and loved praise. He constantly vowed to be born in the Tuṣita Heaven and composed a contemplation of the Tuṣita heavenly palace, annotating the 'Source of Meaning' in four fascicles. He dreamed that a blue-clad youth addressed Yu, saying, 'If you, master, wish to be born in the Tuṣita Heaven to behold the Great Being Maitreya, you should make an image and contemplate his true form.' Awakening, he immediately carved wood into an image. He died at the age of over seventy. At the approach of death, he told his disciples, 'The image I made appears in empty space; following the image, I am born in heaven.'
