The realm of South India had fallen into ruin and desolation; the ruler and ministers could not maintain their longevity, and the people had already perished. The king dispatched an envoy to invite Śrīmitra of Central India, desiring to save the realm from disaster. Mitra arrived in this realm and addressed the king, saying: “There is the Great Holy One, the Great King Avalokiteśvara Amoghapāśa; you must fashion an image and install it in the pavilion southwest of the city.” Having received these instructions, the king immediately fashioned the image and installed it in the pavilion southwest of the city. The image emitted bright light that shone for one yojana. The king and ministers preserved their lifespans, the five grains were bountiful, and people from other realms admired and were moved by the image. There was an old monastery south of the city, so they moved the pavilion to become a monastery.
