3.81

釋妙運。住總因寺。誦法花經為業。常願生兜率天上。奉事彌勒菩薩。更畫藥王藥上二菩薩像。祈願感應。生年七十有餘。微疾頓發。語師友言。化佛來迎。說此言。汝畫藥王藥上二菩薩像。若有人識二菩薩名字者。一切人天亦應禮拜。不久必生兜率內院。奉事慈氏菩薩云。不久而卒矣。

The monk Miaoyun lived at Zongyin Monastery, reciting the Lotus Sūtra as his practice. He constantly vowed to be born in Tuṣita Heaven and serve Maitreya Bodhisattva. He further painted images of the two bodhisattvas Bhaiṣajyarāja and Bhaiṣajyasamudgata, praying for a sympathetic response. When he was more than seventy years old, a slight illness suddenly arose. He spoke to his teachers and companions, saying, "A transformation Buddha has come to welcome me, saying these words: 'You have painted images of the two bodhisattvas Bhaiṣajyarāja and Bhaiṣajyasamudgata. If there are people who recognize the names of these two bodhisattvas, all humans and gods should also bow to them. Before long, you are certain to be born in the inner court of Tuṣita to serve Maitreya Bodhisattva.'" Shortly thereafter, he passed away.
