In Bingzhou, there was a bhikṣu named Senggan, who took the upholding of the Sūtra on the Contemplation of Amitāyus and the Amitābha-sūtra as his vocation. Gan dreamed of seeing himself grow wings, on the left the text of the Contemplation Sūtra, on the right the text of the Amitābha-sūtra; wishing to fly, his body was still somewhat heavy. Awakening, he recited both sūtras even more intensely. Three years later he dreamed that his wings were fully grown; wishing to fly, he felt somewhat lighter. After another two years, he dreamed that his body was light and soared through empty space without hindrance; pointing toward the west, he flew and arrived at the Land of Ultimate Bliss. At that time, there was one Buddha and two Bodhisattvas, [who said:] "By the power of your sūtra recitation, you have arrived at the borderland of Ultimate Bliss. Return quickly to the Sahā world, recite forty-eight fascicles every day for one thousand days, and only then will you be born into the high grade of land." Waking from the dream, he cultivated as told; after three years, he passed away. At the place where he lay, nine stems of lotus flowers suddenly grew and did not wither or drop for seven days.
