In the Tang, Xie Fu, whose surname was Zhang, suddenly fell gravely ill. His wives and concubines invited the assembly of monks to read and recite the Bhaiṣajyaguru-sūtra for seven days and seven nights. On the night it was completed, Fu dreamed that the monks covered his body with sūtra scrolls. After waking, he was restored to health as before; he attributed it to the meritorious power of the sūtra.
