Shi Zhimeng was extremely foolish in his youth, having no discriminatory intellect whatsoever. His father spent thirty coins to paint an image of Mañjuśrī for him and made his son face the image. In a dream, the image emitted light, illuminating the child's crown, and the light entered his crown. Upon waking, he naturally possessed eloquence and wisdom, like a senior monk who had studied the Dharma for many years. When he inquired into the sūtras and vinaya according to the text, he recited the words and meanings from memory, understanding everything completely. After leaving household life, his talent and wisdom surpassed others, and he was named Zhimeng ("Wisdom-Fierce"). Mañjuśrī transformed into an Indian monk, came to this land, and visited Zhimeng.
