國南浮海數千里,至那羅稽羅洲。洲人卑小,長餘三尺,人身鳥喙,既無穀稼,唯食椰子。

Passing seawards to the south of this country some thousands of li, we arrive at the island of Nârakîra (Na-lo-ki-lo). The people of this island are small of stature, about three feet high; their bodies are those of men, but they have the beaks of birds; they grow no grain, but live only on cocoa-nuts. Crossing the sea westward from this island several thousands of li, on the eastern cliff of a solitary island is a stone figure of Buddha more than 100 feet high. It is sitting facing the east. In the head-ornament (ushnîsha) is a stone called Yueh-ngai-chu (Chandrakânta). When the moon begins to wane, water immediately runs down from this in a stream along the sides of the mountain, and along the ravines of the precipices.
