The rock spring north of the mountain is where the Buddha, having received food from the mountain spirit, rinsed his mouth and chewed his willow tooth-stick; from this, it sprouted and has now become a dense grove. The monastery is named Willow Stick. / Travelling more than six hundred li east from the dragon pool, traversing the Snow Mountains and crossing the Black Ridge, one reaches the borders of North India. All the settlements before this are called Hu kingdoms; only upon arriving here does one join the Middle Route. The land is named / the kingdom of Lampā (which is subsumed under North India, entering the Brahmin land of India). The territory of the Five Indias is more than ninety thousand li in circuit. On three sides it touches the great sea, and to the north it backs onto the Snow Mountains; wide in the north and narrow in the south, it is shaped like a half-moon. More than seventy kingdoms submit to the same royal command. / As for the kingdom of Lampā, it lies west of Lake Anavatapta, bordering the northern Hu kingdom of Kunduz (Huoguo). Monasteries are numerous and monks are few. There are five deva temples and a hundred tīrthikas.
