the kingdom of Parvata (North India), which is subject to Ṭakka. It is more than five thousand li in circuit, and the capital is more than twenty li in circuit. The people have mixed faith. There are over ten monasteries and more than a thousand monks, who study both the Hīnayāna and Mahāyāna. There is an Aśoka stūpa and twenty deva temples. In a great monastery beside the city there are over one hundred monks, all studying the Mahāyāna; recently, heavenly fire burned it. The land produces much upland rice.
