Dismounting my horse at Xilin Temple, / Carefree, I step forward with a light cane. / At dawn, an official in the public office; / At dusk, a guest on the numinous mountain. / In the second month, the ice of Kuanglu / And its snow just begin to melt away. / Sunlit clusters sprout tea buds; / Shaded crevices vent veins of springs. / Genial and mild, the landscape grows warm; / Densely gathering, mountain mists accumulate. / Scattering, they form the spring of ten thousand ravines; / Congealing, they make a single breath of azure green. / When the body is at leisure, it easily remains placid; / When official duties are dismissed, there is no constraint. / Looking up to those eighteen worthies— / Past and present share this same delight! / This year the Huai bandits have arisen; / Everywhere weapons and armor are taken up. / Wise men exhaust their thought and strategy; / Military ministers toil in campaigns. / Only this untalented one / Amuses himself with springs and stones amid the mountains.
