在嶽之西北。後洞乃高臺之前山也。峯巒翠密。嵐靄常蒸。洞後猿聲聞如巴峽。獵者終不能捕。往往嶽神所護也。又有明水橋。直上高嶺。有天成石塔。層級自然。高約五尋。下虛上銳。非好事者不能一訪。蓋憚路險而遠也。

It is northwest of the peak. The Back Grotto is the mountain in front of Gaotai. The peaks are densely green, and mountain mists constantly vaporize. Behind the cave, the crying of apes is heard like in the Ba Gorges; hunters are ultimately unable to catch them, as they are often protected by the mountain deity. There is also the Mingshui Bridge, leading straight up to the high ridge. There is a naturally formed stone pagoda, its tiers natural, about five fathoms high, hollow below and sharp above. None but an enthusiast could pay a visit, as they dread the perilous and distant road.
