1.57

又誣云。佛亦周遍五道。備犯眾過行凶惡猶得佛。此非悕為惡者之法也。又計生民善者少而惡者多。惡人死輒充六畜。爾則開闢至今足為久矣。今畜宜居十分之九。而人種已應希矣。

The slanderer also falsely says: “The Buddha also transmigrated through the five paths, completely committing all transgressions and performing evil deeds, yet he still attained Buddhahood. This is not a law for those who wish to refrain from evil! Furthermore, calculating living beings, the good are few and the bad are many. When evil people die, they regularly fill the six domestic animals. Then from the opening of the universe until now, the time is long enough; at present, animals should comprise nine-tenths, while the human race should already be rare.”
