1.63

又誣云。沙門之在京洛者多矣。而未曾聞能令主上延年益壽。上不能調和陰陽使年豐民富消災却疫克靜禍亂云云。下不能休糧絕粒呼吸清醇扶命度厄長生久視云云。

They also slanderously say: 'Śramaṇas in the capital of Luoyang are many, yet we have never heard that they can prolong the sovereign's life or grant him longevity. Above, they cannot harmonize yin and yang to cause bountiful harvests, enrich the people, eliminate disasters, avert epidemics, or quell calamities and rebellions. Below, they cannot cease grain consumption, fast from cereals, breathe pure air, sustain life, overcome perils, or attain long life and enduring vision.'
