皇上今旨理妙辭縟。致極鉤深。究至寂而更闡。啟幽途以還晣。雖復列聖齊鑣群經聯奧。靈山金口禪水玉舌。終不能捨此以求通。違茲而得正信哉。澡江漢之波塵滓以滌。導德齊禮還風反化。法俗兼通於是乎在。付比言展方盡述讚。弟子司馬褧呈。

the Present Sovereign's current edict has wondrous principles and ornate expressions, which reach the utmost in dredging the profound; investigating the ultimate tranquility, it expounds it further, opening the dark paths to make them clear again. Even if successive sages rode abreast and all the scriptures joined their depths, or the golden mouth on Vulture Peak and the jade tongue in the waters of dhyāna were present, in the end one could not abandon this to seek penetration, or violate this to obtain right faith! Washing with the waves of the Jiang and Han rivers, the dust and defilements are cleansed; guiding with virtue and regulating with ritual, ancient customs and transformation are restored. That both the Dharma and secular realm are fully understood lies entirely in this. Handing this to you, when we soon meet and talk, I shall fully express my praises. Your disciple Sima Jiong presents this.
