神本不滅久所伏膺。神滅之談良用駭惕。近約法師殿內出。亦蒙勅答臣下一本歡受頂戴尋覽忘疲。豈徒伏斯外道。可以永摧魔眾。孔釋兼弘。於是乎在。實不刊之妙旨。萬代之舟航。弟子亦即彼論。微歷疑覈比展具以呈也。沈約和南。

That the spirit is fundamentally inexterminable is something to which I have long submitted with reverence; talk of the spirit's extinction truly caused me shock and dismay. Recently, when Dharma Master Yue came out from the palace, I also received a copy of the imperial reply to the ministers; I welcomed it with joy, placed it atop my head, and perused it without weariness. Not only does it subdue these heterodox paths, it can forever shatter the hosts of Māra. The simultaneous promotion of Confucius and the Buddha resides precisely herein. It is truly an unalterable wondrous purport, a boat and raft for myriad generations. I have also examined that treatise slightly, questioning and scrutinizing it; I shall soon present it in full.
