辱告惠示。勅所答臣下神滅論。夫指歸無二宗致本一。續故不斷釋訓之弘規。入室容聲孔經之深旨。中外兩聖影響相符。雖理在固然而疑執相半。伏奉淵旨照若發蒙。顧會玄趣窮神知寂。惻情盡狀天地相似。千載闕疑從春氷而俱泮。一世顛倒與浮雲而共開。祇誦環徊永用懸解。存及之顧良以悲戢。弟子柳惲頓首白。

Graced by your notice and favored by your bestowal of the imperial answer to the ministers' Treatise on the Extinction of the Spirit: Indeed, the ultimate destination is not twofold, and the fundamental purpose is originally one. To continue the past without interruption is the grand model of Buddhist instruction; to enter the chamber and accommodate the sound is the profound intent of Confucius's classics. The two sages of the internal and external accord with one another like shadow and echo. Although principle is inherently thus, doubts and attachments were evenly split. Prostratively receiving the profound intent, it illuminates like dispelling ignorance; looking back on the encounter with the mysterious purport, it thoroughly probes the spirit and knows tranquility. Expressing empathy to the fullest degree, Heaven and Earth are similar. Doubts left open for a thousand years dissolve like spring ice; the inversions of an entire lifetime disperse along with floating clouds. Reverently reciting and pacing in circles, I shall always rely on it for absolute liberation. That your kind remembrance reached me makes me truly sad and grateful.
