I am honoured by your letter, condescending to show the imperial decree answering the ministers to clarify the treatise on the extinction of the spirit. Pondering it repeatedly and reciting and savouring it continuously, I truly know that the wondrous core lies at the inception of movement, an affair separated from the ordinary and shallow; the spirit concentrates beyond the hexagram lines, its meaning surpassing mediocre understanding. His Imperial Majesty's sagacious survey penetrates the obscure, human nature, and the Dao of Heaven; therefore, his acute perception is heroically far-reaching, his solitary awakening exceptionally deep. He recounts the three sages to guide those who do not yet understand, and singles out the two affairs to wash away partial delusions. Thus the purport of linking to filial piety becomes ever clearer, and the principle of cause and effect is ever more widely proclaimed. The pure scriptures of Mount Gṛdhrakūṭa are here displayed anew; the clear teachings of the River Zhu are once again illuminated. Like the sun and moon, nothing can surpass them. Although I, your disciple, am obscured, afflicted, and deeply veiled, mistakenly receiving these exemplary words and investigating their wondrous purport, I still cannot help dancing with joy. The Master of the Dharma proclaims the supreme Dao and brightly expounds the great plan; your unexpected favour has added to my deep gratitude. Presented by your disciple He Yang.
