12.33

晉咸康六年。成帝幼沖。庾氷輔政。謂沙門應盡敬王者。尚書令何充等議不應敬。下禮官詳議。博士議與充同。門下承氷旨為駮。尚書令何充及僕射褚翌諸葛恢尚書馮懷謝廣等奏。沙門不應盡敬。

In the sixth year of the Xiankang reign of the Jin dynasty, Emperor Cheng was young, and Yu Bing assisted in government. Yu Bing maintained that śramaṇas should pay full homage to the ruler. Prefect of the Masters of Writing He Chong and others argued that they should not pay homage. The matter was referred to the ritual officials for detailed deliberation, and the erudites' opinion agreed with Chong's. The Chancellery, taking Yu Bing's intent, rejected it. Prefect of the Masters of Writing He Chong, Vice Directors Chu Yi and Zhuge Hui, and Masters of Writing Feng Huai, Xie Guang, and others submitted a memorial that śramaṇas should not pay full homage.
