5.46

晉元興三年歲次閼逢。于時天子蒙塵。人百其憂。凡我同志僉懷綴旒之歎。故因述斯論焉。

In the third year of the Yuanxing era of the Jin dynasty, the year being efeng (404 CE), at that time the Son of Heaven was covered in dust, and the people multiplied their anxieties a hundredfold. All of us comrades together harbored the sigh of being suspended like banners; thus on this occasion I composed this treatise.
