The treatise says: "Matters of desires are all extended through ritual, yet the canon of filial reverence alone is bent by the Dharma to violate virtue and transgress against obedience, without anyone ever noticing it." The objection says: If one violates virtue and transgresses against obedience, there is nowhere that is acceptable; but compassion, reverence, benevolence, and harmony reach everywhere without impediment. Therefore, reducing food to practice the Dao is not the lodging of an omen of misfortune; wearing a ceremonial cap and eating the bread of idleness is not the method for nurturing correctness. The expectations of bending and extending can be severed right here.
