The explanation says: The sutra says that futu means 'the holy omen and wondrous chart (tu) floated (fu) across the sea and arrived; hence it is called futu.' The stone Buddha of Wu floating over the sea and suddenly arriving was just such an event. Now you distort the tu of 'image and chart' into the tu of 'punishment and slaughter'. Taibo governed with hair neatly bound and cap adjusted, so he had no shameful conduct; Zhongyong cut his hair and tattooed his body to follow the local customs and bring about transformation. If they met you today, they would surely suffer your thoughtless barking. Things may seem right but be wrong, or seem wrong but be right. Secular books take Zhongni (Confucius) to be a sage; the inner sutras say that ni means 'woman'. If someone were to call Zhongni a woman, could you possibly believe it? That is just like confusing 'slaughter' (tu) and 'image' (tu)—how are they any different?
