8.79

釋曰。孔子云。儒有上不臣天子下不事公侯。儒者俗中之一物。尚能若此。況沙門者方外之士乎。昔伯成子高子州支伯且希玄慕道。以不近屑人事。

The response says: Confucius said, "Among Confucians there are those who above do not serve the Son of Heaven as ministers, and below do not serve the dukes and marquises." If Confucians, who are creatures within the secular realm, can still be like this, how much more so the śramaṇas, who are scholars beyond the realm? In ancient times, Bocheng Zigao and Zizhou Zhibo aspired to the Mystery and admired the Dao, not deigning to involve themselves in human affairs.
