The response says: "Lacking conditions" means arising through conditions that are without conditions; "having conditions" means arising through conditions that have conditions. How is this known to be so? In the world there are cases where an entire household enters the Dao; hence it is said that arising occurs through conditions that have conditions. There are also those who through their whole lives never recognize a monk (bhikṣu); hence it is said that arising occurs through conditions that are without conditions. The sixteen prince-sons left the household on the same day and followed their father into the Dao. This is what conditions bring about: the entire household gave up everything and arrived. Why should it only be appropriate for two to leave? As for those lacking conditions, they simply seek within their own lack of conditions and examine themselves—that is all. You, sir, are about to fall eternally into the Avīci hell; what leisure do you have to debate this further? Do you not intend to turn your weapons against yourself? If you could turn away from delusion, it would exceedingly match my hopes.
