答曰。珉似玉而非玉。鶋類鳳而非鳳。物誠有之。人故宜爾。項陽貌似而非實。以心器不均雖貌無益也。

[Fan Zhen] replied: Min stone resembles jade yet is not jade; the yu bird resembles the phoenix yet is not a phoenix. Things truly have such cases, and it is naturally so with human beings. Xiang [Yu] and Yang [Huo] resembled them in appearance but not in reality; because their mental organs were not equal, their outward appearance was of no benefit.
