Your Highness the Prince: endowed by Heaven with heroic spirit, naturally precocious, of surpassing demeanor and expansive capacity; finding joy in doing good, you surpass that Prince of Dongping; taking pleasure in warmth and easy accessibility, you rival that Prince of Western Chu. Moreover, you regulate the hundred magistrates and bring order to the six directives; your virtue has already drawn up the nets, and your benevolence has torn through the snares. You open a mansion on the broad avenues to seat the guests of Xun Qing; you construct a garden of tall bamboo to banquet cultured and refined visitors. There are none whose poems do not exhaust the evoking of emotion, and whose rhapsodies do not exhaust the depiction of things. Truly, your praise is manifested in court and countryside, and your excellence runs through former heroes. However, Lin and the others look within ourselves and find deficiencies, of little use in square or round matters. Reflecting on Fu Yi's extreme folly, we are ashamed at the rebuke of 'common monks' and 'bald fellows.' This is the utmost evil; no crime is greater. Since the times of Zunlu and Hexu, after heaven and earth were opened, there has never been one as mad and perverse as Yi. Unable to endure the utmost heartbreak and marrow-cutting pain, I respectfully record the harmful points raised by Yi, and presume to state humble words, itemizing the responses as follows. Sullied before your awesome majesty, I humbly add to my dread and devastation. Respectfully presented.
