11.33

史錄曰。吳太宰嚭問於孔子曰。孰為聖人乎。孔子曰。西方之人有聖者焉。不治而不亂。不言而自信。不化而自行。蕩蕩乎民無能名焉。

The Historical Records state: Grand Minister Pi of Wu asked Confucius, 'Who is a sage?' Confucius said, 'Among the people of the western regions there is a sage: he does not govern, yet there is no disorder; he does not speak, yet he is naturally trusted; he does not transform, yet it moves on its own. Vast and boundless, the people can find no name for him!'
