13.13

禮云。退官無位者左遷。論語云。左衽者非禮也。若以左勝右者。道士行道何不左旋而還右轉耶。國之詔書皆云如右。並順天之常也。

The Rites state: 'Those who are demoted and lose their positions are transferred to the left.' The Analects state: 'Fastening the collar on the left is contrary to the rites.' If the left were superior to the right, why do Daoists, when performing rituals, not circle to the left instead of turning to the right? The imperial decrees of the state all say 'as stated to the right' [i.e., above]; these all accord with the constancy of Heaven.
