生分本多端。芭蕉知不一。合萼不結核。敷花何由實。至人善取譬。無宰誰能律。莫昵緣合時。當視分散日。

The elements of life are inherently manifold; / from the plantain tree one learns it is not unitary. / Joining its sheaths, it forms no kernel; / blossoming into flowers, how could it bear fruit? / The consummate person is adept at drawing similes: / without a ruler, who can regulate it? / Do not grow fond when conditions come together; / one must look toward the day of dispersion.
