In Qizhou, a stupa was erected at Fengquan Temple. When they were about to fashion the reliquary, twenty li northeast of the temple, four slabs of patterned stone were suddenly found, as lustrous as jade and evenly proportioned in size. They accordingly took them to make a double reliquary. Then, on the southern wall of the large reliquary, extraordinary colors appeared distinctly, forming the shape of twin trees, three feet and three inches high, with stems as white as snow and leaves like agate. On the northern and eastern walls were shapes of birds, beasts, dragons, and elephants. On all four walls were flower patterns turning to the left and circling to the right. Later, the foundation stone gradually transformed entirely into crystal. The śramaṇa Daoyan drew the image of these twin trees and placed it in Xuzhou, where all the leaves turned blue-green. The following year, Dabaochang Temple in Qizhou made a copy of the auspicious image from Shanzhou and placed it in the Buddha hall to make offerings facing the doorway; the great image three times emitted red light that streamed out through the doorway. Thereupon, the images of the thousand Buddhas and Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva outside the doorway also repeatedly emitted light. Within five days, heavenly flowers fell twice.
