17.42

廓州於法講寺起塔。舍利初發京下宿於臨臯。沙門夢失舍利。是夜廓州有光。高數丈。從東方來入寺。右繞佛塔。照及城樓內外洞朗。遙望者疑燒積薪。光漸西流食頃乃沒。及定塔基正當光沒之所。又有香氣𣱦氳異常。

In Kuo prefecture, a pagoda was erected at Fajiang Temple. When the relics first departed from the capital, they lodged at Lingao; a śramaṇa dreamt that the relics were lost. That night in Kuo prefecture, a light several tens of feet high came from the east into the temple, circumambulated the stupa clockwise, and illuminated the city gates and towers, making both inside and outside completely clear; those who gazed at it from afar suspected a heap of firewood was burning. The light gradually flowed westward and vanished after the duration of a meal. When the foundation of the pagoda was fixed, it was precisely where the light had disappeared. There was also an extraordinary, dense fragrance.
