Your treatise also considers that heaven and earth are vast and distant, while human affairs are minute and near, so that a single good or a single evil is unrelated to unseen response. But if so, then the net of heaven is vast—is it coarse and so lets things slip through? "Nothing is more visible than what is hidden, nothing is more manifest than what is subtle." It is only that fullness and alteration are concealed within daily function, and deferred debts are obscure in their causal conditions; thus they occasionally conflict with what is seen and heard. When a mountain collapses, the bronze bell resonates, not losing sympathy on account of the distance of the road; when fire and lake alter their natures, they do not become close on account of sharing the same image. If one closely examines these several points, one may attain a slight awakening.
