Third reply: If one who speaks glorious words of worthiness is still granted to be worthy, how could one who speaks glorious words of sageliness conversely not be a sage? The common people are benighted in their daily use without knowing it; only the Buddha thoroughly exhausts the lofty height of the true mark. Now to wish that this lofty mark be known by the benighted has never been the case. If they do not know it, how can they not take glorious words as an object of faith? Since the glorious words of Śākyamuni are taken as correct, why should the glorious words of Confucius be taken as wrong?
