18.88

答曰。顏子體二未及於照則向善。已上莫非闇信。但教有可由之理。我有求理之志。故曰關心。賜以之二。回以之十。豈直免尤而已。實有日進之功。

The answer says: Yan Hui embodied two parts and had not yet reached illumination; thus from facing toward good on up, all are none other than believing in darkness. Yet teaching has principle that can be followed, and I have the aspiration to seek principle, so it is said to concern the mind. Zigong understood two parts, while Yan Hui understood ten. How could it merely be avoiding fault? Truly there is the merit of daily progress.
