Having probed and investigated the treatise by [Xie] Yongjia, it is entirely without flaw. It seems wondrous and excellent, and I cannot help but rejoice. The purport of the Dānapati's objection is extremely essential; looking closely, it will certainly achieve an excellent comprehension. For now, let me tentatively take up the treatise's intent in brief to express my joy: if one were truly without knowing, how could there be faith? Therefore, believing through teaching is not lack of knowing. It is just relying upon the other's knowing, while principle remains external to oneself. Relying upon the other can lead to oneself; how could it lack merit in daily progress? Yet it is not one's own knowing, so how could it have a share in entering illumination? Is it not because seeing principle on the outside is no longer total blindness, yet knowing not from within is not yet able to illuminate?
