吾曾以己所懷疏條摩訶衍諸義。圖與什公平詳厥衷。遂有哀。故不復能斷理。未久什公尋復致變。自爾喪戎相尋無復意事。遂忘棄之。近以當遣使送像。欲與卿作疏。箱篋中忽得前所條本末。今送示卿。徐徐尋撫。若於卿有所不足者。便可致難也。見卿未日並可以當言笑。

I once outlined various meanings of the Mahāyāna according to what I held in mind, intending to assess the truth evenly with Master [Kumāra]jīva. Then there was mourning, so I could no longer adjudicate principle. Soon after, Master Jīva passed away. Since then, bereavement and military affairs followed one after another, and I had no further heart for these matters, so I abandoned and forgot them. Recently, as I was about to dispatch an envoy to send an image and wished to write a note to you, in the chests I suddenly found the previously outlined originals. Now I send them to show you. Peruse them leisurely. If anything seems deficient to you, you may raise objections. Before the day I see you, they can serve in place of speech and laughter.
