The Emperor embodies the ultimate Way and glorifies grand achievements. Truly intelligent, he acts as the primal sovereign. Residing in the ten stages, he condescends to respond as a king among men; giving rise to the eight fields of blessings, he fittingly returns as the lord of the world. His profound vision is boundless, peering back into the beginning of dusty kalpas; his quiescent illumination is all-penetrating, encompassing beyond the cosmos. Bending this asaṃskṛta state, he displays conformity with those in training; cultivating both giving and patience, he lifts up both dhyāna and wisdom. Surpassing cities and kingdoms in his great renunciation, he equals the time when [the Buddha left] the royal palace; assessing rare treasures across the four heavens, he is identical to the days of a cakravartin, deeming them light as wild-goose down and casting them off like worn shoes. Thus, in the Way he surpasses emperors and kings, and his deeds stand high in the square registers of history. If one did not possess the superior virtue of innate knowledge and cherish spiritual capacity in one's bosom, thoroughly matching the three vidyās and equalling the functions of the two wisdoms, who could attain to this? As for the Golden-Lettered Mahāprajñāpāramitā Sūtra, it is the most revered of the Dharma divisions and the consummate teaching of the perfect sage. It establishes its tenet upon signlessness to clarify the root; it sets out on its course to merge with the ultimate. Its profound meanings billow like clouds, and its deep expressions are rich as the sea. Scholars of previous generations were seldom able to bear and receive it.
