In the first year of Yanxing, Xianzu Xianwen abdicated the throne to Crown Prince Senggai, also named Hong, who was Emperor Xiaowen. At the age of five, he was sagely and profound in insight, exhausting the wondrous and discerning the subtle. Upon his initial accession, Xianzu moved his residence to the Chongguang Palace in the Northern Park to guide and study the arcane scriptures. He erected the Luye [Mṛgadāva] Stūpa on the Western Mountain within the park, ten *li* to the right of Chongguang, with cliff chambers and dhyāna rooms where meditation monks resided.
