I have perused your recent message and know you wish for me to expound the Dharma's meaning. Now, the teaching of the Shakya is profound and concentrated, its ultimate principle deep and pure. The way of the single mark is distant and hard to fathom; the gate of non-duality is silent and without sound. Unless one has deeply penetrated the profound school and meticulously comprehended the wondrous meaning, how could a matter such as this be easily or lightly distinguished? As for propagating the correct teaching, it lies solely in benefiting living beings. As your disciple, regarding the inner meaning, I truly delight in it and cherish it myself. Yet in hooking the deep and drawing from afar, there is much that I have not understood; as for the principle of benefiting others, how could it be worth discussing? The monks have all entered the Dharma gate, and their roaming along the Way grows broader day by day. As for you, Dharma Master, there is all the more no need for words. That you say you wish to come and receive instruction from me is truly incomprehensible to me. Hoping you understand this intention, I shall not say much more. Tong bows with palms joined.
