I bow my head to the Buddhas, / Wishing for the protection of their spiritual might. / I shall now state my sincere petition, / Let there be no blame or ridicule. / Sunk in obscurity without awakening, / It is to Perfect Enlightenment that we return. / Long submerged in the ocean of craving, / A boat and oars are what we hope for. / Diverse attachments lead to discordant dispute; / It is harmony and unity upon which we rely. / The dark truth is separated from grasping at existence; / The principle transcends faults and violations. / Pride departs from the eightfold right path; / Frivolous discourse enters the hundred negations. / Grasping and rejecting are discerned as one; / Defilement and purity are subtly mixed. / Pick out the gold and discard the gravel; / Polish the jade to augment its luster. / May the Capable and Benevolent One look upon all, / Concentrating his thoughts to investigate the subtleties. / Having aligned in sincerity with the Great Way, / Who would dare revile or slander it? / Straightforward frankness exalts virtue; / Servile acquiescence gradually brings decline. / I only wish you will incline your ears, / In the hope of bringing forth illumination. / Looking up in earnest sincerity, / Condescend to instruct with flowing grace.
