問既為具足者說。不為童蒙。云何令食肉而是引其令深。答初教如此非是極教。
[The Emperor] asked: "Since it was taught for those with the complete precepts, and not for beginners, why did he have them eat meat and yet say this was leading them deeper?" [Sengbian] replied: "The initial teaching was like this; it was not the ultimate teaching."
