Yet now, while in a land of poverty and suffering, bound by anxiety, distress, hardship, and entanglements, enduring all afflictions, not close to the triratna, not near the correct Dharma, within extreme delusion, dark obstacles, and severe suffering, if they can for one day and one night uphold the pure prohibitions, practice the Way in the six periods of the day, additionally cultivate the six fasting days and the three long fasts of the year, or hold one precept, two precepts, three precepts, up to five precepts, eight precepts, or ten precepts, moderate tastes with vegetables, and restrain body, speech, and mind; furthermore, lead their wives, children, and internal and external kin to dedicate themselves to esteeming good and establishing the cause of bodhi; or withdraw offerings for their parents and shares for their wives and children, and with wealth, clothing, delicacies, dishes, and fruits, exhaust all they possess to respectfully make pure and fine offerings, with the whole household serving diligently, looking forward morning and evening; or, on account of illness, peril, government trials, or imprisonment, or upon the demise of beloved kin, pray for blessings along the spirit path; or generate good and eliminate offenses, initially bringing forth the faithful mind, revering śramaṇas as no different from sages—because they accord with the Buddha's correct teaching, by according with the Buddha's words they transcend birth and death. If they violate the Buddha's words, they will surely fall into evil paths. Therefore, they should always firmly make correct vows: vow to receive spontaneous birth with mastery, fly to all Buddha-lands, respond to and receive sentient beings according to what is perceived, learn the Buddha's deportment, enter the Tathāgata's room, wear the Tathāgata's robes, sit on the Tathāgata's seat, and with skillful means and great wisdom awaken to liberation, ultimately without obstruction regarding all phenomena, adorned with great vows to the exhaustion of space.
