27.225

若見意力強幹少病登勞行道無礙。有人多患不安所行莫濟。見有此苦勸施醫藥。令其進趣。故法句經云。四時行道得度眾苦。一者少年有力勢時。二者有財物時。三者遇三寶福田時。四者當計萬物必離散時。常行此四。必得道跡。應自督課。不待他勸。

If one sees someone whose mental resolve is strong and capable, seldom sick, untired by exertion, and unhindered in practicing the Way, while there are others with many afflictions and unease whose undertakings never succeed: seeing such suffering, one urges the giving of medicine so that they may advance. Thus the Dharmapada says: 'Practicing the Way in four situations, one can cross beyond all sufferings: first, when young, strong, and vigorous; second, when possessing wealth; third, when encountering the merit-field of the triratna; fourth, when contemplating that the myriad things will surely scatter and separate. Constantly practicing these four, one will surely attain the traces of the Way.' One should spur oneself on and not wait for the encouragement of others.
