The man of Yue casting gold truly had yearning; / The Queen of Wei carving wood was also said to grieve. / Even middling worthies with minor virtues can still be longed for; / As we depart further from the sage, our emotions grow ever more abundant. / The Jetavana grove is desolate, filled with ancient briars; / The royal palace is silent and lonely, these are its leftover foundations. / Setting up the image in the chamber, it is as if there is someone to gaze upon; / Revealing the demeanor and arresting the light, dimly it seems like him. / Joined in companionship beneath the same sun, why must we be separated into before and after? / The path is far, our destinies ill-fated—will there ever be a time? / Baring our hearts and fixing our thoughts, we yearn with sorrow; / Manifesting his spirit and capturing his likeness, he brushes away the dust of doubt.
