悠悠九土各異形。擾擾四俗非一情。驅車秣馬徇世業。市交鬻義衒虛名。三墨紛紜殊不會。七儒委欝曾未并。吉凶拘忌迺數術。取與離合實縱橫。朝日夕月竟何取。投巖赴火空捐生。咄嗟失道爾迴駕。沔彼流水趣東瀛。

Vast are the nine regions, each of different form; / bustling are the four classes of worldly folk, their dispositions not the same. / Whipping carriages and feeding horses, they pursue worldly pursuits; / bartering in marketplaces and peddling righteousness, they flaunt empty fame. / The three Mohist factions fall into confusion, differing without agreement; / the seven Confucian branches droop in stagnation, never uniting. / Constrained by taboos of auspicious and inauspicious signs, they resort to occult arts; / taking and giving, parting and joining, they are truly in disarray. / Morning to the sun and evening to the moon—what in the end is gained? / Leaping from cliffs and plunging into fire, they throw away their lives in vain. / Alas, you have lost the path—turn your chariot around! / Spanning wide, those flowing waters hasten toward the Eastern Sea.
