I reflect that bodhisattvas, in relation to sentient beings, are a great reliance. Observing natures and marks, they rescue and deliver according to capacity; if even a single person is not saved, they do not realize the fruit of the Way. From antiquity to the present, their practices and vows have been as one. Yet Ākāśagarbha Bodhisattva is the most supreme, serving as the king of banners among the multitude and the venerable lord of great illumination, possessing the wisdom of all buddhas and obtaining the secrets of the Tathāgata. As for appearing in dreams and manifesting marks according to conditions: upon hearing his title once, water and fire cannot burn or drown; chanting his name with a single mind, blades and staves cannot harm. Vows for lifespan and wealth, when contemplated, are surely fulfilled; needs for sights, sounds, flavors, and touches, when sought, are all realized. For physical and mental sickness and distress, with pity he cures and heals; for prisons and terrors, by skillful means he unties and explains. This is to conform to worldly dharmas and bring ease and joy to sentient beings. When he shakes divine transformations, leaving the realm of the Fragrant Gathering, radiating pure light, and arriving in the realm of Jambudvīpa, he enters the concentration of samādhi to remove the heat of defilements, and speaks dhāraṇīs to shatter evil karmic obstacles. The evil world of the five turbidities becomes immediately cool and clear; the five root transgressions are completely liberated. This indeed is an eye of the world, revealing the path of nirvāṇa. As a disciple, I inherit the Tathāgata's teaching and receive the compassionate land of all the buddhas; enveloped by the bodhisattva's merit and family, I practice the deeds of the Great Being. I only vow that in the lands of the ten directions, there is universally the one vehicle, and that sentient beings of the ten directions all cultivate the ten stages. Now, at a certain place, I reverently establish the Ākāśagarbha Bodhisattva Confession for a certain number of monks and a certain number of days. May the assembly present here pay reverent homage with utmost sincerity to our original teacher, Śākyamuni Buddha; pay homage to Kusuma-saṃpuṣpita-tathāgata; pay homage to the divine dhāraṇī incantations; pay homage to Ākāśagarbha Bodhisattva. May Ākāśagarbha Bodhisattva respond to our sounds and answer our calls, manifest his supernatural powers, reveal the light of wisdom, roam through all lands in various bodies, and deliver sentient beings without going against his vows. I bow my head and pay reverent homage to the eternally abiding triratna.
